Charlie’s words had a profound effect on Mrs. Treadway.
She suddenly broke into tears, overcome with emotion.
Overwhelmed, she fell to her knees and kowtowed deeply, thanking Charlie for his kindness.
Charlie helped her up, smiling, “Grandma, there’s no need to thank me.
After all, you’ve already taken the Rejuvenation Pill, and I won’t take back the Phoenix Vine bracelet.”
Mrs. Treadway quickly waved her hand, “That bracelet was given to you in the first place.
Even if you hadn’t given me the Rejuvenation Pill, I wouldn’t ask for it back.”
Charlie smiled and said, “It’s almost time, so please pack quickly.”
He added, “Bring only essential items.
The car has limited space and I have already arranged for necessities such as food and clothing to be available for you in
Sterling.”
The elderly Mrs. Treadway nodded repeatedly and spoke with sincerity, “I will only bring the ancestral tablet and these three
paintings with me.”
She immediately began to pack, as the ancestral tablet and paintings held great importance to her family’s heritage.
Charlie chose not to interfere with her choices.
Mrs. Treadway carefully placed all the ancestral tablets into her bag.
She wrapped each of the three paintings with care and added them to the package, but with a twist.
She kept one of the paintings, the portrait of Lord Morvel, painted by her ancestors, back.
With both hands extended, she presented the portrait to Charlie.
“Benefactor, with your exceptional supernatural abilities, there’s a chance you may encounter Lord Morvel if he truly finds the
path to longevity,” she said with a serious tone and then added, “So, I want to give you this portrait of Lord Morvel as a token of
appreciation.”
Charlie was taken aback by Mrs. Treadway’s words and smiled slightly.
He declined, “Grandma, this is a family heirloom passed down by your ancestors.
How could I take it? You should keep it safe.”
However, Mrs. Treadway knelt down with the painting scroll in her hands, she said firmly, “Benefactor, I will be leaving this place
with my son today.
In my heart, I have made a decision for myself... My son and future generations to wait for the opportunity with Lord Morvel, after
we leave.
The Treadway family only needs to know that our ancestor had this miraculous experience and doesn’t need to know about the
promise...”
“Furthermore, once we leave here, even if Lord Morvel is still alive, he won’t be able to find us.
So, why not give this painting to you? In case Lord Morvel is not dead, you might meet him someday, and this painting might
lead to a friendship.
If you don’t accept it, I won’t get up.”
Charlie sighed inwardly, thinking to himself, “It’s highly unlikely that this Lord Morvel is still alive.
Even if he wrote the ‘Apocalyptic Book’, I doubt he could have lived for fourteen hundred years.
Surviving that long requires more than just energy and pills.”
Despite his doubts, Charlie saw the determination in Mrs. Treadway’s eyes and didn’t argue any further.
He accepted the painting scroll and said firmly, “Okay, I’ll take it.
I promise to take good care of it.
Now, please hurry.”
Mrs. Treadway’s shoulders finally relaxed and she rose to her feet.
Just then, her son’s voice echoed from outside the door, “Hey, our honored guest, what are you doing standing out here? I just
hunted two plump and healthy pheasants.
I’ll prepare them for us to cook.”
